Metso Outotec — Two Brands, One Digital Home
When Metso and Outotec joined forces, their websites didn’t get the memo. Over 14 months, I helped fuse two legacy platforms into one cohesive experience — simplifying navigation, aligning design systems, and giving the new Metso Outotec brand a proper digital home.
Metso Outotec Group is the merger of Metso and Outotec, Finland’s leading industrial machinery companies, in July 2020. For the merger the Metso Outotec Group went through a radical rebranding.
Having built our relationship with Metso before the merger it was our job at Wunderman Thompson to transfer the new brand to the new Metso Outotec website.
My task as the UX/UI designer together with the creative art director and project manager, was to implement the new Metso:Outotec brand and migrate content into the new website. The migration allowed us to create new features and improve UX.
We worked closely with other agencies responsible for development, deployment and SEO, using agile methodology with Jira and Miro for aid collaboration.
The implementation of the website allowed us to look at ways to improve engagement and conversation using the data from both Metso and Outotec's previous websites. As well as allowing us to bring in new features.
- Agile methodology
- Working in 2-3 week sprints and 3 month Product Increments
- Many stakeholders and agencies involved in the whole project strong communication was key
- Project tools included: Jira, Confluence, Sketch and Miro
