Nokia needed a modern, modular, and manageable web presence to reflect its evolution beyond mobile phones. As Lead Designer at Wunderman Thompson, I helped shape the new nokia.com—building a design system for consistency, refining UX, and creating interactive 5G visualizations to make complex technology intuitive and engaging.
Not be confused with Nokia phones, Nokia is now a leading technology company supplying mobile, fixed and cloud network services and infrastructure.
At Wunderman Thompson I was the lead designer for Nokia and my work ranged from UI and UX work for nokia.com, corporate presentations, visual and graphic design.

When Nokia was a client for Wunderman Thompson (Mirum) I worked as the lead UI/UX designer. My first and ongoing project was design support for the implementation of Nokia’s website renewal, designed by an agency in San Francisco, as well as the design maintenance after the launch.
During the implementation we realised that the modules weren’t suitable for Nokia’s content. Initially the design changes came in a piecemeal fashion but to have a level of consistency and coherence, I initiated the creation of a design system. Working with the content and development team we created an online portal so developers and content creators could see a library of the available modules along with a corresponding Sketch file which I kept up to date.
The new nokia.com launched without a hitch, the following maintenance was slightly more tricky. Whilst there were UX improvements we could take on our own initiative, when there were improvements needed due to content demands, communications within a corporation the size of Nokia were not the smoothest. Navigating internal conflicts and gauging priorities was a complex task and the efficiency of the work wasn’t optimal.

The 5G networks team at Nokia wanted interactive infographics to help illustrate key capabilities offered by adopting a 5G network.
- HTML 5 interactive component
- Visualising 5G systems
- Highly complex to be destilled down to something easily understandable visually
